Questions

  • Nope! In the state of California we are able to see you for 45 days or 12 sessions (whichever comes first) before getting a prescription. Let’s get started! You can come to your first session, then we will send our notes to your physician, which could be your primary care provider, OBGYN, urologist, or anyone else that may be directing your care. They will sign off on the notes and we will intermittently send them progress updates.

  • No! There are so many things, outside of the pelvic floor, that we assess and treat. A physical therapy evaluation will look at how your hips and back move, how do you perform functional things, such as squatting or picking up something heavy, what’s going on with your abdomen as well as addressing habits and behaviors. An internal pelvic exam can be helpful but it is not required. You are the boss of your body and what you say goes. There should never be any pressure to have an internal exam and it is not embarrassing or upsetting if you decline. You can say yes and change your mind, and that is okay. You can still benefit form pelvic floor physical therapy.

  • Instead of going into the PT clinic, your therapist will send you a link to your visit. You can be anywhere as long as you have access to the link and WiFi or cell service. We suggest a safe place that wouldn’t require you to wear headphones. We will assess how you’re doing that day and then get you moving. We suggest the evaluation be done in person, but any other visit can be performed virtually. If you have questions about this, call and we’d love to discuss this as an option for you.

  • I love that you’re asking! We recommend getting in around 12-13 weeks to get an early assessment of where you’re at and get some stretches and exercises that will help throughout your.pregnancy. However, you can come in as early as you’d like! I love seeing people early on, giving them a plan, and sending you on your way for a bit. Then, as your pregnancy progresses we can increase frequency and modify exercises. We suggest getting seen consistently around the middle of your second trimester. We can educate you about appropriate stretches and exercises as well as labor and birthing positions and other things that can prepare you for birthing and the early weeks after. If you are having any sort of pain or dysfunction, we’d recommend coming in sooner rather than later.

  • Following birth, if you’ve been to pelvic PT and were given exercises and stretches for postpartum, we suggest coming in following your 6 week appointment. If you’re having pain or do not have exercises specifically for the first few weeks, we suggest setting an appointment as soon as you’re able to safely drive yourself; typically about 2-3weeks postpartum.

  • Restore Pelvic Therapy is an out-of-network provider so we do not accept insurance and do not treat people with Medicare or MediCal. By not contracting with insurance companies, we are able to provide one- on- one care that is run by your body’s symptoms and dysfunction rather than having to limit our services to what insurance companies will reimburse. Insurance companies put a monetary cap on what they will pay, how long a patient can be treated, and what can be performed in sessions. By not accepting insurance we are able to work for you and not an insurance company. Please look at our pricing page or call us, for more details.
